WINDOW BOX
Domesticating Beauty Is a Survival Strategy
A window box is a small, domesticated landscape – nature tamed, trimmed, framed and kept alive amid the city, ourselves, concrete and chaos. In Blair Saxon-Hill’s work, beauty is not an escape from reality, but a way of enduring it. Of living within it.
The works in Window Box are elevated above street level and exhibited inside an industrial glass container converted into an office. A busy workspace that also resembles a gigantic window box. In the encounter between Blair Saxon-Hill’s works and the everyday life of the office, a symbiotic collision occurs between the private and the professional – a controlled opening onto the world through beauty.
In glimpses and for a moment, the works remind us why we need to arrange, nurture and preserve what is beautiful. This is how we make it through – the day and life itself.
