The Exact Hour

COLLABORATIONS & CCA Andratx is pleased to present The Exact Hour, a two-person exhibition with Osaka-born, Tokyo-based artist Keita Morimoto and Bangkok-born, New York-based artist Nina Molloy, developed during their residency at CCA Andratx in April 2026. The exhibition presents a new body of paintings and charcoal drawings, created in direct response to the artists’ time on the island.

The title of the exhibition centers on the metaphor of a precise, fleeting moment — the blue hour, the instant a streetlamp catches, the second before a memory hardens into an image. Here, the “exact hour” is not a fixed point on any clock, but the threshold where light, recognition, and recollection briefly hold still before slipping apart again. Both artists work to catch something at the moment just before it disappears.

Morimoto’s practice moves across painting and drawing, but returns again and again to a single subject: artificial light in the empty city. Streetlamps, convenience stores, vending machines, and lone farmhouses become, in his hands, modern descendants of the candlelight in Caravaggio or de la Tour — not physical description, but a decision about what deserves to exist at all. His recent return to charcoal, after a decade away from the medium, strips these scenes back to threshold, tree, and facade, searching for the geometry that exists just before a scene becomes legible.

In The Exact Hour, that search is turned toward something equally hard to hold onto: the residue of a residency, an island, a stretch of unfamiliar time, refracted through Molloy’s layered translations of domestic textiles and Morimoto’s darkened, light-struck streets. What does an artist carry home from a place like this — and what, in the end, is simply too fleeting to fix in place?

KEITA MORIMOTO (b. 1990, Osaka, Japan) is a Tokyo-based artist working across painting and drawing. His practice centers on nocturnal cityscapes built from memory, exploring artificial light as both physical and spiritual event, in dialogue with the chiaroscuro tradition of the Baroque. He has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto, K11 Musea, the Powerlong Art Museum, and The Power Plant.

NINA MOLLOY (b. 1999, Bangkok, Thailand) is a New York-based artist working across painting and print. Her practice centers on domestic textiles translated through repeated acts of transformation, exploring memory and representation as unstable, ever-shifting states. She has exhibited internationally at venues including Friends Indeed (San Francisco and Los Angeles), Kunsthal n, and the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.
